One of the world's Oldest Groups

Covid-19 and Variants

As you all know, at the moment the entire world is in the grip of a terrible pandemic. Before we mention the impact on Scouting I would like to say that our hearts go out to all those who have lost loved ones.

This is a brand new Web Site, and this page has been totally re-written three times, before the site was even finished. The situation with regard to Covid 19 can necessarily change very quickly.

For this reason, and until the situation stabilises, we would ask you to follow the links below to Scouting's National Site. Firstly to ensure you get up to date information. Secondly, we have to follow their instructions, and their site will obviously update before ours can.

The 10th Croydon has followed the best possible practices and advice, throughout this crisis, and because of that we managed to remain open previously. This was only possible because we managed to comply with all requirements, and got all appropriate permissions and clearances. And that was only possible due to a considerable amount of work from the entire team here, and in no small part to some "above and beyond" efforts by our Group Chairperson "Sherry". On behalf of the team I can say we will willingly do it all again as soon as we are allowed to.

Covid Update

On more than one occasion we have been forced to temporally cease face to face meetings, but we constantly continued to operate. We resumed face to face meetings as soon as we were allowed to.

We were fully operational and had everything required in place right up to the announcement of the last lockdown, so providing there are no new requirements, (in principle) we should be in a position to re-open as soon as the current lockdown is lifted.

However we MUST always follow the most recent guidance and instructions that are issued on the links below.

You can still contact us by phone, e-mail etc., we are still here for you and will be happy to deal with all enquiries as we did before, in fact our membership has grown considerably during the crisis.

The 10th Croydon has survived two World Wars and the London Blitz - We will survive this pandemic, however like most charities this pandemic has obviously imposed an additional strain on our finances and any help in that area would be much appreciated.

We remained open for "face to face" meetings throughout the pandemic, whenever legally allowed to do so. At other times the Group took advantage of modern technology organising online Zoom meetings, and our members continued to benefit from the Scouting experience, and continued to earn badges and awards.

To continue operating during the present crisis, the Group has obviously had to comply with considerable additional constraints and requirements. We have also had to "Do Our Best" to anticipate future requirements, and to develop contingency plans.

We would like to thank to everyone who organised and took part in our online meetings.

We have been given the go ahead to run outdoor face to face meetings from the 29th of March 2021, and already have activity days planned and announced (see news page).

Covid has not left us unscathed.

Do not for one second think our determination to keep operating means that in any way we do not realise the seriousness of this truely horrible illness.

We are VERY aware of how serious this disease is, and it has not left us unscathed. Some of our leaders and other key adult volunteers have had this evil desease, and some have been hospitalised. I am pleased to report however that so far all appear well on the way to recovery.
